Thallus endophloeodal to epiphloeodal, to c. 70 µm thick, pale yellowish grey to pale greyish green or olive, glossy, smooth, continuous. True cortex ±continuous, to c. 20 µm thick, consisting of periclinal hyphae, occasionally replaced by a protocortex. Algal layer variable, continuous or patchy; calcium oxalate crystals absent. Vegetative propagules not seen. Ascomata inconspicuous, to c. 0.4 mm diam., ±rounded, apothecioid, solitary, predominantly immersed. Disc with the columella visible in older ascomata, slightly pruinose, grey to dark grey, free, entire. Pores formed by the thalline rim margin, to c. 0.1 (–0.3) mm diam., ±rounded, moderately thin, occasionally slightly annulate, entire to slightly split or evanescent, then the apex of the proper exciple becoming visible from above as a dark brownish to dark grey line, otherwise concolorous with the thallus to brownish; thalline rim incurved. Proper exciple fused, moderately thin, yellowish to yellowish brown internally to brown or carbonised marginally and distally, non-amyloid. Hymenium to c. 80 µm thick, not inspersed, strongly conglutinated; paraphyses bent, ±interwoven, unbranched, with ±thickened irregular tips; columellar structures present in older stages, not well developed, to 150 µm wide, entire, carbonised, with or without a covering of greyish or brownish granules. Epihymenium hyaline, with or without greyish granules. Asci 8-spored; tholus remaining thick when mature. Ascospores transversely septate to submuriform, oblong, with ±rounded ends, hyaline, non-amyloid, 10–20 × 5–8 µm, with 4–5 × 1–2 locules; locules ±angular, initially lentiform, becoming irregular, often fused in a central groove, finally the locules becoming divided and irregularly arranged; septa distinct and regular only when immature, later thick and irregular; ascospore wall thin, indistinctly halonate; endospore thick. Pycnidia not seen..
CHEMISTRY: Thallus K–, C–, P–; no compounds detectable by TLC.
